PART A: Mind Map: Concepts concerning professional ethics is mentioned below:




1. Objectivity: State of mind that excludes bias, prejudice, compromise and that gives fair and impartial consideration to all matters that are relevant to the task at hand.

Auditors should carry out their work with impartiality (with no other matters in mind) and Auditor must have no Bias and no interest in the result of his/her opinion.

2. Integrity: Acting with honesty as well as fairness and courage.

3. Competence: Auditors should only accept and perform work that they are competent to do.

4. Confidentiality: Auditors should respect the confidentiality of information acquired as a result of professional and business relationships and should not disclose any such information to third parties without proper authority or unless there is a legal or professional right to disclose.

Exceptions: When the auditor can break the confidentiality clause with the client:

Obligatory disclosure: If an auditor knows or suspects that his client committed money laundering, treason, drug trafficking or terrorist offences, auditor is obliged to disclose to the authorities.

There are also few voluntary disclosure.


Professional Behaviour: A professional accountant should act in a manner, consistent with the good reputation of the profession and refrain from any conduct which might bring discredit to the profession.




Part B: Essay - Personal objectives regarding the course


Write an essay (max. 2 pages) where you reflect and discuss at least the following topics:
  • What are your personal objectives regarding the course? Mention at least three subjects or motives.
  • What kind of thoughts do you have concerning the topic "professional ethics (of management and development)"?
  • What principles or themes of ethics are you interested in? Use the study material to identify your themes and remember to mention the sources you have used.

Part C: Peer review and discussion

The students will be divided into groups of 4-5 students. Each group will read each others mind maps and essays (1A and 1B). After reading students will participate in dialogic discussion. The discussion will take place during ………. and the teacher may participate in the discussion.

In the discussion, the students will reflect on at least the following questions:

  • What kind of similarities and differences can be seen in the mind maps?
  • What kind of thoughts and questions arose?
  • Did you get any new ideas related to your own mind map and essay?
  • Make comments and give feedback to other members of your group
  • Answer the comments and questions that others have made
